Typing on the iPad Pro at a presentation in a darkened room, for instance, has always been tricky, so I’ve resorted to tipping the screen briefly over so I can see where that pesky percentage key has gone and hidden again. Obviously, if you’re in a brightly lit environment, you can barely see it, but in a darkened room, it looks great. You can adjust how bright the backlighting is in Settings (go to General, then Keyboards, then Hardware Keyboards) but additionally it adjusts automatically according to the ambient light in the room. The backlighting on the keys is new to the iPad Pro, or indeed any Apple cordless keyboard.
The keys feel smooth and tactile, with a gentle concave shape that means your fingers find them easily.

It’s a bit noisier than the latest Mac laptop keyboards. At 1.56 pounds, 707g, it’s heavier than the iPad Pro 12.9 (1.41 pounds, 640g) and, unsurprisingly than the iPad Smart Keyboard Folio which weighs 0.91 pounds, 413g, in its 12.9in size.
